On Practical RIS-Aided OFDM With Index Modulation

Reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS)-aided communication has been regarded as one of the promising technologies for future wireless networks with regards to controlling propagation environment and enhancing quality end-to-end links. In this study, considering importance index modulation (IM) RIS-aided schemes in 6G networks, first, an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM)-IM system design is proposed. Previous studies focusing on OFDM systems are based ideal reflection model, where constant amplitude variable phase shift RIS independent incoming signal. However, realistic applications, model may not be accurate since both elements depend frequency, which makes their effect significant, especially wideband systems. Therefore, study primarily considers a practical through designing coefficients OFDM-IM order further enhance bit error rate (BER) performance system, exhaustive search-based optimization algorithm that maximizes average minimum Euclidean distance (AMED) within subblocks also Moreover, extensive computer simulation results produced illustrate improvement proposed over reference algorithms literature. The AMED-based coefficient provides better BER concerning presented algorithms.
